Is It Possible to Turn a Tourist visa into a student visa in Canada?

Yes, you can seek to change your status from tourist to student, but you will be unable to apply for a new study permit from within Canada after your current study visa expires. This means that you will not be given more time to extend your study or employment permit.

Is It Possible to Turn a Tourist visa into a student visa in Canada

You must first complete a short-term mandatory course to change your Canadian Visitor Visa Status to a Study Permit (Visa). You will be eligible to apply for a study visa in Canada once you have completed the relevant curriculum.

Tourists who desire to pursue a six-month or shorter course of study do not need a study visa or a study permit. They can finish the course while their guest visa is still valid. No visa extensions will be given for finishing a short-term program, however.

If you want to participate in a long-term educational program from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) that lasts longer than 6 months or exceeds the permissible time limit of your stay, you must apply for a study permit from outside Canada.

You do not need to get a new study visa if your V-1 visa is valid for a longer period of time than your study permit. Because most single-entry visitor visas are only valid for 6 months, you will also need to get a Study Visa (S-1) in addition to your passport and study permit.

How to apply for a Study Permit as a Visitor in Canada?

To apply for a Canadian study permit and visa, please complete the following steps:

  • A letter of enrolment from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)

  • Proof of finances to demonstrate that you can afford your tuition, living expenses, and return travel.

  • Proof of no criminal records.

  • A medical checkup to demonstrate excellent health

  • Evidence that you intend to depart Canada after your studies are completed

You must wait for your application to be accepted after submitting it.

Following acceptance, you will be given a letter of introduction and an S-1 visa, which must be shown at Canadian border control along with a valid passport. You will be awarded a student permit and will be allowed to stay in Canada for the duration of your course plus 90 days after gaining approval.
